Former asst director arrested in Sushant Singh Rajput case for drugs supply
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested former assistant director Rishikesh Pawar in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Pawar had been on the run since last month.
Last month, the Mumbai sessions court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Rishikesh Pawar in the Sushant Singh Rajpur drugs case which is being probed by the NCB.
NCB officials had since January 8 launched a manhunt to nab Rishikesh Pawar, who was questioned by NCB in September last year when several people associated with the actor were questioned. Pawar’s role in supplying drugs to late Sushant Singh Rajput came to light.
Pawar allegedly procured drugs and supplied it to Sushant Singh Rajput for monetary benefit. One of Sushant’s staff members, Dipesh Sawant, named Pawar as one of the persons supplying drugs to the actor.
Sawant in his statement had said that before he started working for Sushant, it was Pawar who delivered drugs to the late actor following which Pawar’s residence was also raided by NCB in September last year.
Following the rejection of anticipatory bail application by Pawar, NCB officials visited his Chembur residence but found that he had fled.
Sameer Wankhede, Zonal Director of NCB, had then said, "Rishikesh Pawar is an accused named in the C.R. no 16/20. He is Assistant Director of Sushant Singh Rajput’s dream project. Various evidences clearly reveal the role played by the Rishikesh Pawar in supplying drugs to the late actor Mr. Sushant Singh Rajput for a monetary consideration".
Officials from NCB said that Pawar will be produced in court on Wednesday.
Rajput was found dead at his residence in Bandra on June 14, 2020. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing his death while the NCB is investigating the drugs angle related to the case. NCB has arrested 30 accused in alleged drug nexus in SSR death case.
